Snorrastofa is a research centre for medieval studies and the history of Borgarfjordur. It communicates knowledge through exhibitions, international conferences, symposiums, courses, a course of lecturers and publishing.

The Reykholt Project is directly connected to Snorrastofa. It was launched 1999 and is an international, interdisciplinary project, divided into three components: 1) archaeological investigations, 2) cultural landscape and environment and 3) Reykholt as a centre.

Reykholt and European Literacy is another research project, connected to Snorrastofa. It is a nordic, five years project (2002-2006), sponsered by NordForsk and is connected to The Reykholt Project.

Archaeological research is also carried out in Reykholt. The National Museum of Iceland is currently conducting an archaeological research of the farm and church sites at Reykholt. In 1988-1989, excavations were carried out on the old farm site and work was resumed 1998.

Aesthetics is yet another research field. In May 2003, Snorrastofa organized an international symposium on aesthetics, sponsered by Reykjavík Cultural Fund and The Minestry of Education. Other institutions that took part were Iceland Academy of Arts, The Living Art Museum and The University of Iceland.

Snorrastofa does also manage and organize course work. In the fall 2003, Snorrastofa organized a course on cultural studies, in cooperation with Bifröst School of Business and The Reykjavík Academy.

Last but not least: Snorrastofa´s publishing.
